Employment and root material for pigs
The invention relates to an employment and rooting device for use, for example, in pigs.
The prior art
Employment and rooting materials for pigs are materials that meet the needs of pigs to work, ie. examine their surroundings (both vertically and horizontally). Pigs investigate their environment by performing rooting, sniffing, biting and chewing movements. The materials also meet the pigs' need to perform root behavior, ie. perform root movements. The need to perform rooting behavior is considered to be met if the pig - standing in its natural position and with its head pointing downwards - can mess with the steps of the material.
To obtain value as an employment and rooting device, the employment and rooting device must be manipulable and deformable and placed at floor level in order to be used as rooting material.
Examples of manipulable material may be of soft wood (eg fir, birch, pine, poplar). If the tree is suspended in a chain, possibly. in the tilting device between two paths, the tree must be able to lie on the floor of both paths at the same time so that it can constitute both employment and root material. The tree must not be so contaminated that the pigs have no interest in it. The material must be adapted to the size of the animals.
It is known with employment and rooting devices which are attached to the furniture, but these have less mobility.
Thus, it is an object to find employment and root material for pigs that meet the above criteria and can be placed freely on the floor without being soiled.
This is achieved according to the invention with an employment and rooting device comprising an elongate element formed in a manipulable material such as wood or straw, said element having end faces and at least one elongated side surface. Around the elongate member is mounted a support blank extending at a distance around the member, thereby supporting the elongate side surface of the member touching the substrate when the employment and rooting device rests on a flat surface.
The invention thus provides employment and root material which is free to move and which can be placed freely on the floor without being soiled. The support element ensures that when the employment and rooting device is placed on a floor surface, such as the floor of a pig barn, the employment and rooting device rests respectively on the floor. the support member and one end of the elongate member. Examples of manipulable material may be of soft wood (eg fir, birch, pine, poplar). The pig can push the employment and rooting device around the floor without being soiled as the support ensures that the elongated side surface of the element does not touch the substrate. In one embodiment, the support blank is a circular member having a diameter greater than the thickness of the elongated member. This ensures that, regardless of how the employment and rooting device is turned, it will rest on respectively. the support member and one end of the elongate member. Likewise, the pig can push to the employment and rooting device and this will vibrate. In one embodiment, the support is a ring mounted with spacers ensuring a distance between the inside of the ring and the outside of the elongate member. This ensures that even when the working and rooting device is turned, the elongated side surface of the element will not be able to touch the substrate. Thereby, an opening is formed between the support member and the elongate element, thereby opening the further employment opportunities for the pig. In one embodiment, said spacers are ribs and / or screws. This is a particularly convenient way of ensuring a distance between the inside of the ring and the elongate member. In one embodiment, along the elongate member is mounted a rail in a non-manipulable material such as metal or hard plastic.
This ensures that the elongate element cannot be rubbed over, which can create a sub-element where the entire side surface can rest on the substrate and thereby become soiled. Furthermore, such a sub-element can clog the gill duct.
Description of figures
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings, in which fig. 1 shows an embodiment of an employment and rooting device according to the invention; FIG. 2 shows device of FIG. 1 is placed on a support such as a floor in a pig barn; FIG. Figures 3A-C show the elements of an employment and rooting device as shown in Figure 1 and their interconnection; Figure 4 shows an alternative embodiment of an employment and rooting device according to the invention; 5 shows the working and rooting device of FIG. 5 is placed on a support such as a floor in a pig barn; FIG. 6A-C show the elements of an employment and rooting device as shown in Figure 5 and their interconnection.
Description of Embodiments In FIG. 1 and 2, a first embodiment of a working and rooting device 1 is shown. The working and rooting device comprises an elongated member 3 with end faces. Around the elongate member and at one end there is mounted a support member 5 extending at a distance around the member 3. The support member 5 prevents the elongated side surface of the member from touching the support 7 when the working and rooting device rests on a flat surface. In the figures, there is further mounted an angle piece 9 in a rigid material, such as metal or hard plastic, on one edge of the elongate element, thereby ensuring that the element cannot be rubbed over, thereby leaving element pieces which can, for example, block the gill duct. and guild drains in the barn. Angle pieces can either be mounted with screws or glued to the long side of the element. Figures 3A-3B illustrate the elements of the employment and rooting apparatus and their mounting. The support member 5 is circular and annular and there are spacers 11 on the inside of the support member, so that when mounted on the elongate member, a distance from the inside of the annular support member and the elongate member is created.
The spacers 11 are formed with pointed ends so that the elongate member can be pressed down into the annular support member, the ends of the spacers 11 cutting into the end of the elongate member 3. Further, screw holes 13 allow mounting of screws, support and the elongated element are further secured. In FIG. 4 and 5, another embodiment of a working and rooting device 11 is shown. The working and rooting device comprises an elongated member 13 with end faces. Around the elongate member and at one end there is mounted a support member 15 which extends at a distance around the elongate member 13. The support member 15 prevents the elongated side surface of the elongate member from touching the base 17 when the employment and rooting device rests on a flat surface.
Further, an angular piece 19 in a rigid material, such as metal or hard plastic, is mounted on one edge of the elongate element, thereby ensuring that the element cannot be rubbed over, thereby leaving element pieces which can, for example, block the gill duct and slurry drain. in the barn. Angle pieces can either be mounted with screws or glued to the long side of the element. Figures 6A-6B illustrate the elements of the employment and rooting apparatus shown in Figures 4 and 5 and their mounting. The support member 15 is circular and annular, and a spacer 21 is mounted on the inside of the support member 15, so that when mounted on the elongate member, a distance from the inside of the annular support member and the elongate member is created.
The spacer 21 is attached to the angular piece 19, for example by welding, and then the support member can be attached to the elongate member 13 via screws through screw holes in the angular piece 19. In the above embodiments, examples of support members which are circular rings are provided, but alternatively this can also be be other ring shapes such as square or oval. Further, the support member may also be formed in other ways, such as a flat plate mounted on one end of the elongate element.
Further, the support member need not be mounted at one end of the elongate member, but may also be mounted elsewhere along the elongate member.
